Hey girls! We're back with a lifestyle post: après culture.
Skiing may be a sport, but for the casual skiers, it's the après culture that really defines the mountain experience.

Origins of Après Ski
Skiing has been around since around for thousands of years, with the first archaeological evidence of skis dating back to 8000 BCE. But the après ski we know today has only taken off in the 1950s with the rise of commercial skiing. The term is French, and means "after ski," but it has become a universal description for all the socializing, drinking, and entertainment that follows a day on the mountains.

The modern après scene
Today's après scene typically starts just as the lifts wind down, though some may be impatient to get in on the action right as noon passes. The experience varies dramatically by location, from indulging in casual slopeside drinks by crackling fire, or dancing on tables at La Folie Douce. Some destinations like St. Anton's MooserWirt and Cloud 9 in Aspen have become iconic for their après scene, drawing visitors who spend more time at the bar than on the slopes. The modern après culture has evolved into a high energy party scene with DJs and spirits, but even if you're not engaging in champagne spraying, the après experience can still be an enjoyable social experience.

Après fashion
Après ski fashion is an essential part of the après experience, combining style and functionality for the transition from the slopes to the social scene. The importance of fashionable yet cozy looks cannot be overstated - layering is key for staying warm!
Mastering après style is just about finding versatile pieces that keep you warm and comfortable while looking cute. Here are some après ski fashion "categories" you may want to consider while picking your outfits!
The hardcore skier: coming for the ski and staying for the après...
Opt to stay in your technical ski wear if you're après-ing outside, like insulated jackets and ski pants (but ditch the ski boots, obviously!)
Performance orientated materials with a sleek athletic look + warm thermal layers will keep you warm and allow for easy transitions from outdoor to indoors
Choose brands like Arcteryx, Patagonia, and Helly Hansen
The casual skier: morning skiing and après-ing all the way home
After a few hours of skiing, transition to cozy yet stylish pieces like cashmere or wool sweaters
Pair with tailored ski pants and shearling-lined boots
Mix high quality basics with a few statement pieces
The après-only crowd: here for the Insta pics
Though some may try to discourage our après only girl as being a jerry on the mountain, we know people will be jealous of her outfit!
Make a statement in fur or faux fur coats, metallic puffer jackets, and moon boots (we love!)
Play with textures, colors, and eye catching accessories
Outfit inspo (in the order of our categories)

Après lifestyle
For the wealthy and elite, après ski isn't just an after slopes activity - it's a lifestyle. It's about indulging in the finest experiences, from sipping champagne in designer ski wear to - at fine dining settings by the mountains. The slopes are just a backdrop for the luxurious, jet setting lifestyle where the party never stops.
High fashion brands have capitalized on this, hosting exclusive winter events and opening stores in iconic ski destinations. Luxury lodges in Gstaad, Courchevel, and Aspen are home to designer boutiques, allowing you to shop straight from the slopes. Après ski is the epitome of aspirational living, where the champagne flows freely and the line between skiing and socializing blurs. Après is the chance to see and be seen, the ultimate expression of living large.

What makes après ski culture so appealing is how it adds something to look forward to after skiing - socializing and celebrating life's moments (with booze). Whether you're a serious skier or more interested in the social scene, the après culture welcomes all with its blend of sport, style, and sophistication.
That's it for today's post!
stay stellar 🌟
